Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP)
EVITP is a voluntary, non-profit collaboration of electrical industry organizations.
EVITP was established in the USA to provide the electric vehicle (EV) transportation sector of the electrical industry, and all stakeholders, with a structured platform to facilitate training and certification for licensed electricians installing electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) across residential, commercial/public and fleet markets. It offers training at U.S. community colleges and electrical training centres. EVITP certified more than 800 electricians in 2014-2015 alone, and more than 220 certified instructors working in 35 states.
EVITP was developed in collaboration with leading firms in the electrical industry, but the program is brand neutral and does not recommend suppliers.
In 2012, NETCO became an EVITP industry partner, and led the adaptation of EVITP Phase 1 training and certification for Canadian needs on behalf of the electrical industry in Canada, providing critical financial and project management support.
In June 2013, NETCO and EVITP announced the launch of Canadian EVITP Certification for qualified electricians with inaugural EVITP Instructor Training pilot courses conducted in British Columbia and Ontario. B.C.'s Electrical Joint Training Committee, a NETCO affiliate, now functions as the Canadian licensee for EVITP training. This is an open curriculum: in other words, if a representative from a college, government or utility becomes accredited as an instructor, their organization gains access to the full EVITP curriculum.
NETCO is launching the 2016 EVITP curriculum update—which aligns to the 2015 Canadian Electrical Code—at our annual training conference on June 4, 2016 in Vancouver, BC.

NETCO is a partner with CSA Group, a leading standards-based solutions organization, in a national certification program for Construction Electricians installing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in Canada.
The Construction Electrician (NOC 7241) Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems Certified (PVSC) Personnel Certification was developed by CSA Group in conjunction with the National Electrical Trade Council (NETCO) and industry stakeholders to provide assurance that an individual possesses the competencies deemed necessary to perform the job function of a Solar Photovoltaic Systems Certified electrician. This certification has been developed in compliance with the ISO 17024 standard.
Launched in 2011, this personnel certification program examines an individual's measurable knowledge and skill rather than education and general credentials. It is the first program in Canada to offer a certification based on the tasks that qualified journeyperson Construction Electricians carry out in applying their skills to the installation and maintenance of Solar PV Systems.
The CSA program is an overlay to the Red Seal endorsement, and reflects the Canadian electrical industry's commitment to lifelong learning and upgrading for journeypersons. The program does not provide the basis for a new stand-alone occupation.
