The National Electrical Trade Council (NETCO)

Government Affairs/Public Policy

The mandate of the National Electrical Trade Council is to promote national standards, apprenticeship and journeyperson skills training for the electrical industry in Canada.

NETCO strongly supports the Red Seal Program, which has stood for more than 50 years as a successful model for labour mobility in Canada. The Red Seal endorsement, available to tradespeople through the successful completion of a Red Seal exam, is widely recognized as a standard of excellence by the electrical industry across Canada.

NETCO has been a robust advocate for the electrical industry on changes to the Red Seal program that have been developed by the Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship related to, for example, harmonization of training and certification standards across Canadian jurisdictions.

NETCO also advocates with governments and industrial safety organizations on new and emerging issues related to innovation and improvement in trades training.

NETCO plans to provide industry and stakeholders with an updated policy framework document in 2016.
